Meadow Merlot

Vintage 2023.

We are excited to share with you Sweet Briar College Farm’s first Merlot wine, from our 2023 harvest. In 2019, as part of our College’s focus on sustainability and agricultural enterprises, we planted grapes on our beautiful campus.  The Merlot grapes in this wine grew in a vineyard overlooking a sprawling wildflower meadow, which we planted and steward to provide habitat and resources for both native pollinators and the honeybees in our 20-hive apiary.  Both the wildflower meadow and the vineyard serve as important learning areas for our students, especially those in our Leadership in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program.
